As part of 25th anniversary celebrations, GDI has presented the Order of Gabriel Dumont to six outstanding Métis Leaders. The Order of Gabriel Dumont is awarded by the Gabriel Dumont Institute to a small number of persons who have served the Métis of Canada with distinction. Four gold medals and two silver medals were awarded. The following four people received gold medals. |

Rod Bishop (awarded posthumously) presenter: Max Morin, Committee Member, Napoleon LaFontaine Scholarship Foundation accepting: Angela Bishop (Rod's daughter) Roderick Joseph Bishop was born in Green Lake in 1938. Without any doubt Bishop was influenced by his father, Alex, who dedicated his life to the Métis. He was a man of considerable integrity. He was direct. Harry Daniels (awarded posthumously) presenter: Murray Hamilton, Coordinator, SUNTEP Saskatoon accepting: Cheryl Daniels (widow of Harry Daniels) Harry Daniels was a Métis activist, political leader, writer and actor. He was born in Regina Beach in 1940 and died in Regina on September 6, 2004. Charismatic, passionate and utterly dedicated to advancing the rights of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples, Harry Daniels spent over 40 years working to improve the lives of Canada’s Aboriginal peoples in national and international venues. ...
