Prospective Students

Special Features of the SUNTEP Program:

Field Placement - Field Experience (student teaching) is considered to be one of the most dynamic and significant elements of SUNTEP. A developmental continuum is maintained with a field experience component in each of the initial years closely supervised by SUNTEP faculty. This experience culminates in a 16 week extended practicum (internship) usually in the last year of the program and monitored by SUNTEP personnel.

Year 1 - Students participate as observers and assistants, in school classrooms in and near the city in one week blocks. Students will teach basic lessons incorporating planning and professional targets.

Year 2 - Students are required to complete practice teaching sessions in the fall and spring of their second year. The practicum will occur in a northern school in which five days will be completed in the fall semester and five days will occur in the spring semester.

Year 3 - Students are required to take part in all aspects of teaching, including planning, teaching and evaluation activities, lessons and unit planning. The duration of year III field experience is four weeks, and is considered as pre-internship.

Culture Camp - SUNTEP Prince Albert holds a cultural camp for students in the Fall and Spring of each year. Numerous guests, Elders and resource people are utilized in order to provide students with a broad cultural experience focusing on Indigenous philosophy, art, history and culture.
